2022 Preakness Stakes Horses, Contenders, Odds, Date: Expert Who Named Kentucky Derby Double Relay Picks

With a much smaller field, post positions won’t hold as much stock for the 2022 Preakness Stakes as they did in the Kentucky Derby, but there’s one post that hasn’t delivered the same success as others in recent years. The No. 2 position has seen only one Preakness winner in the past 35 years, the fewest of the nine posts that will be taken Saturday for the Preakness Stakes 2022. Cloud Computing won from No. 2 in 2017, and Creative Minister withdrew that number. the 2022 Preakness Stakes post-draw. Adding to Creative Minister’s bad draw is that he is the least experienced horse in the 2022 Preakness Stakes field, as he did not race as a two-year-old and did not compete in a graded stakes race. Despite this, he is 10-1 in the final 2022 Preakness Stakes odds. Preakness Stakes favorites for 2022 are Epicenter (6-5), Early Voting (7-2) and Simplification (6-1). Post time for the Preakness 2022 is 7:01 PM ET. With so much to think about, you’ll want to see what SportsLine’s Jody Demling has to say before entering your own 2022 Preakness Stakes picks or horse racing predictions.

A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling is always on point with his horse racing betting. In fact, this is the same handicapper who has called the winner of Preakness nine times in the past 17 years. In the 2020 Preakness Stakes, Demling won the Swiss Skydiver-Authentic exacta.

He hit the exacta at the Wood Memorial in April. Last year, he hit the exacta, trifecta and superfecta in the Belmont Stakes. He has also hit the Derby-Oaks double at Churchill Downs 10 times in the last 14 years, including this year’s massive upset with Rich Strike. That means he’s ticketed nearly four times in his last 14 tries with the winners of both the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby.

In addition, at one point in 2020, he picked the winners of six consecutive races: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby, Florida Derby and Belmont Stakes. Everyone who has followed him at these races is way up.

With the 2022 Preakness Stakes approaching, Demling is sharing his picks and predictions on SportsLine. Go here to see them.

Top 2022 Preakness Stakes Predictions

One of Demling’s surprising 2022 Preakness Stakes picks: he fades Secret Oath, even though she’s one of the top favorites and just won the Kentucky Oaks. After an impressive win over the Kentucky Oaks, Secret Oath is looking to become the third filly in the past 14 years to win the Preakness. But the more challenging races have made her difficult as she hasn’t won two of her three previous starts in Class 1 or 2 races.

Secret Oath is trained by six-time Preakness winner D. Wayne Lukas, whose resume is unmatched when it comes to other trainers in the 2022 Preakness Stakes field. The filly’s rest of the connections are lacking, however, as she is the first standings winner for owner Briland Farm and will be ridden by jockey Luis Saez, who has only two previous Preakness horses. He also failed to win and this will be only his second time aboard Secret Oath. While Demling thinks highly of Secret Oath, he still has her down a notch than other 2022 Preakness Stakes contenders.
