1. As I’ve written before, when Bill Simmons’ “F — Jalen Green” line became a big thing online, very few people wanted to put any context into it.
Simmons, in an episode of his ringtone podcast, did not say “F — Jalen Green” the person. He said “F—Jalen Green” as a candidate for the All-Rookie team. It was not a personal attack. It was also said in jest and not in a serious way. I also explained all this in a recent edition of the SI Media Podcast with Ryen Russillo.
But that’s how it was now presented by everyone who wrote about it. It was sold simply as “Bill Simmons Says F—Jalen Green.”
Not surprisingly, Green got wind of Simmons’ comment and raised this Wednesday night after being named to the NBA’s All-Rookie team.
Now it’s impossible to tell from that tweet whether Green was talking to Simmons and saying “F — Jalen Green,” or whether he was talking about making the All-Rookie team when Simmons said that he didn’t deserve it. Or both.
Either way, Simmons provided the perfect answer. I know, for some unknown reason I can’t figure out, it’s become an online thing to bash Simmons and dump him whenever possible, but I give him credit for responding to Green and doing so in an honest and fair way to do it.
Some people are all excited about Simmons’ “fake news aggregators” rule, but the truth is that the aggregators on the World Wide Web presented his comment in a way that was not truthful. Simmons’ response was direct and honest.
I also love that Simmons didn’t apologize. In so many cases, people just apologize to apologize, even if they haven’t done anything wrong. It’s good to see Simmons not going down that road.

3. Steph Curry drinks a three and dancing is a beautiful thing.
4. Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley had a big fight last night about Jimmy Butler and whether it’s harder to score against great defensive players. At one point, Barkley even dropped a “fool” on Shaq, and it was hilarious.
5. Two great things about this fan running on the field during Wednesday night’s Braves-Brewers game in Milwaukee. First, keep an eye out for Atlanta reliever Kenley Jansen, who doesn’t even flinch when the fan rushes past him. Just great discipline. Two, how about this man’s courage to try and get a high five at Jace Peterson’s home plate before he gets kicked out.
6† Obviously, after today’s battle of words between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher, CBS will make Texas A&M–Alabama a prime-time game on October 8th.
7. RANDOM VIDEO OF THE DAY: It’s amazing how well this worked.
