Texas toddler accidentally orders 31 cheeseburgers on DoorDash

Would you like 31 fries with that?

A Texas mom got quite the surprise when she got 31 McDonald’s cheeseburgers after her 2-year-old son accidentally ordered them on DoorDash.

Kelsey Golden, the mother of Barrett, whom she affectionately referred to as “cheeseburger boy” during a conversation with FOX TV Stations, said her son likes to look at his reflection on her phone.

“So I picked up the phone and I transferred the pictures from my phone to the computer and every time I turn my phone off, or my computer off, Barrett just runs over to it,” Golden explains.

Golden works at her two oldest children’s elementary school and was given the task of compiling the yearbook.

While Golden was at work, Barrett took the opportunity to play with his mother’s phone, and it gave her some respite from education to work on her project.

“He likes to look at his reflection, so I thought, well, you know, it keeps him still, so I let him look at his reflection,” Golden said.

She put her phone on camera mode to give her toddler something to distract himself with.

At the time, Golden assumed her phone was still in locked camera mode, but little did she know it wasn’t and her son had free rein over his technologically advanced toys.

Golden said that since the school year came to an end and she was very busy with her projects, she had gotten into an easy habit of using DoorDash to send McDonald’s to her kids’ elementary school.

And since she was already physically there, she could just pick up the order and deliver the food to her kids during their lunch break.

So when she received a text message on May 16 that her order was going to be a little late, she didn’t think too much about it.

“So I texted my admin I work with and said, ‘Hey, DoorDash is on the way with McDonald’s, are you making sure the kids get their Happy Meals?’” Golden said.

Not long after, however, Golden said she received a text from her coworker saying that the order never arrived and that her kids even came to school with a packed lunch.

“And I was like, that’s weird. And right after that there was a knock on the door, and I opened up and it was this girl. She said, ‘Your 31 cheeseburgers?’ And I think I was staring at her for these awkward 15 seconds because I was trying to process everything,” Golden said.

She started imagining scenarios in her head as to why she’d just been given this hefty serving of burgers with cheese. Could it be a joke? Was this delivered to the wrong house?

Golden decided her second guess was the right one and asked the Dasher the name for the order, to which the Dasher replied, “Kelsey Golden.”

“So then I just took the burgers because I didn’t know what to do at the time,” Golden explained. The Dasher politely said to Golden, “Have a party,” before leaving.

It wasn’t long before Golden realized that her son had accidentally ordered the 31 cheeseburgers.

“It’s actually not the first time he’s done this,” Golden said. When Barrett was one, Golden remembered that she had her phone on the arm of her couch and that her son kept tapping the phone screen with his open hand.

“You know how it has friends on Facebook that you might know because they’re friends with your friends? So he clicked on them, like he added them all,” Golden said.

She thought the story was funny enough to share on her community’s Facebook page, where local members share information about what’s going on in the area.

“So I posted there, and I was just trying to be funny with it and I was like, ‘Watch Kingsville/Ricardo community, I got 31 free cheeseburgers from McDonald’s. Apparently my 2-year-old knows how to order DoorDash,” Golden said.

Someone from that community page shared the funny story with a local news station, and then Barrett’s accident went viral.

“Once Corpus Christi got it, it felt like I went to sleep and woke up and it went to states and states,” Golden said.

She started seeing the story on Australian news channels and even in India.

“I thought people would find it funny,” Golden said. She’ll continue to let her toddler enjoy seeing his reflection on her phone, but next time she’ll make sure he doesn’t order another 31 cheeseburgers.
